Losartan Side Effects: 10 Symptoms You Should Watch For

Not every symptom that occurs while taking losartan is necessarily caused by the medicine. However, certain changes warrant prompt medical attention.

Seek urgent medical care for symptoms such as severe difficulty breathing, significant swelling of the face or throat, fainting with severe illness, severe chest pain, or other sudden and alarming symptoms.

Rare post-marketing reactions reported with losartan include angioedema and several other serious conditions, although these reactions are uncommon and their exact frequency may not always be known.

## Do Not Stop Losartan Without Medical Advice

If you believe losartan is causing side effects, do not automatically stop taking it or change your dose on your own.

Stopping blood-pressure treatment can allow your blood pressure to rise again.

Instead, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. They can assess whether your symptoms are likely related to losartan and decide whether the dose should be adjusted or another medicine should be considered.

The exception is a suspected severe allergic reaction involving swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat with breathing or swallowing difficulty. That requires immediate emergency care.
