Swelling, particularly around the legs, ankles, and feet, can occur in some people taking losartan. The NHS includes oedema among its listed common side effects.
New swelling should be discussed with a healthcare professional, especially if it worsens rapidly or occurs with shortness of breath.
## 7. Cough
Losartan can be associated with cough, although cough is generally much more strongly associated with ACE-inhibitor medicines than with ARBs such as losartan.
Clinical evidence described in prescribing information indicates that, among people who previously developed cough from ACE inhibitors, cough rates with losartan were similar to those seen with placebo or hydrochlorothiazide. Cases of cough have nevertheless been reported after losartan reached the market.
A persistent cough can also have many unrelated causes, including respiratory infections, asthma, allergies, or reflux.
